Painted  Queen

Painted Queen (2016) brings painting and portraiture into close contact. Thick strokes of colour move across the face, neck and shoulders, following and interrupting the contours of the body. Pastels meet fluorescent reds, blues and metallic accents; cracks and ridges give the painted surface a physical presence.

Against a spare background, each shift in posture changes the encounter. A lifted chin exposes the throat, a turned shoulder partially conceals the face, and a direct gaze holds the viewer’s attention. The series moves between theatrical gesture and quiet intimacy.

Paint becomes a temporary second skin, transforming the figure while leaving expression visible through its layers. The photographs hold this tension between surface and presence, inviting us to look at the painted body and the person looking back.
