Groundwaters 2022
Installation view of A Head is A House, 2016 Pen on Paper A2
Groundwaters (2022) brought together intensely personal worlds with a shared resonance: creatures, shapes and stories emerging through ritual, absorption and the need to create. Drawing connections between contemporary artworks and objects of devotion, the exhibition moved through alchemy, memory and subterranean desire, seeking alternative narratives beyond established artistic conventions.

My contribution consisted of a pair of A2 line drawings from the series A Head is A House (2015), a 144-page artist’s book made with mixed media on paper (2020–2022), and the acrylic painting The Creation or Nothing (2018). Moving between individual drawings, the intimate sequence of a book and the painted canvas, these works give form to an unfolding personal mythology. They explore the relationship between inner worlds and inhabited spaces: the head as a house, the page as a place to gather visions, and painting as a space for imagining existence.

Curator Gabriel Zammit describes the works as “crafting a language that emerges from deep beneath the bedrock of everything which we can call ourselves.” Within this setting, my work became part of a conversation between distinct imaginative worlds—each rooted in individual experience, yet opening onto questions of who we are and who we might become.
